I’M A BARBIE GIRL
Enter the incredible plastic fantastic world of Sarah Burge
the ‘Real Life Barbie’
Next year, Barbie, the most iconic female doll in the world, celebrates her 50 th birthday. So too does the glamorous former Playboy Bunny and professional ‘Real Life Barbie’ Sarah Burge. But the similarities don’t end there.
From the length of her hair extensions to the shape of her body, from the clothes she wears to the types of careers she’s pursued, from her pink convertible car to the love of her life, her own real life ‘Ken’, the parallels are striking.
So far, Sarah has spent over £200,000 transforming herself into her alter-ego ‘Real Life Barbie’. She has had procedures on virtually every part of her body, including tummy tuck, buttock implants, boob job and fat transfers. She also spends around £22,000 a year on annual ‘maintenance’. In fact, Sarah is the world’s first International Ambassador for Plastic Surgery, travelling the world as a living advert. ‘Real Life Barbie’ is a star in Japan (the Japanese are the biggest Barbie fans in the world) and has made TV chat show appearances in America and the UK.
In this hour-long documentary, we go on a ‘plastic fantastic’ journey into the star-studded, action-packed glitzy world of ‘Real Life Barbie’. In between celebrity parties with Dancing On Ice’s Chris Fountain and film premieres with singing sensations Teatro, ‘Real Life Barbie’ takes part in a world record hair-brushing attempt, visits a millionaire fan in the Caribbean and launches Human Hi, her own campaign to help everyone achieve their dreams.
But beneath the fun and frivolity of Real Life Barbie’s life, lies another story altogether, which we will gradually reveal during the programme.
Sarah, who like many little girls, dreamt of being on the stage, trained at the Italia Conti stage school with contemporaries Tracy Ullman and great friend Lena Zavaroni, before signing up for a life-changing stint at Hugh Hefner’s infamous Playboy Club, which she describes as ‘a glorified knocking shop’.
She lifts the lid on her experiences as a Bunny Girl and her encounters with the rich and famous. She recounts one of the darkest times of her life, a savage assault which left her battered, bruised and fighting for her life. It was this that triggered her lifelong relationship with plastic surgery, as she fought to regain her health, her sanity and ultimately her looks and would eventually lead to her becoming A Barbie Girl.
